Back in 2004 when I was fresh out of university and “enjoying” my first and only stint as a corporate lackey, I used to kill time in the office surfing the web looking for fun stuff to read – better than doing actual work I say! This is probably why I didn’t last long in the job – I wasn’t made out for the whole 9 to 5 thing.

Anyways, I digress. One of my favorite websites to visit at the time was DavesDaily.com. A simple, ahead of it’s time, funny-link-submit news-aggregator. Looking back at one of it’s screenshots on the WayBackMachine, I am amazed at how simple and yet well designed the site was.

I remember interacting with Dave over email a few times. He was always cordial and eager to help. I remember he even promoted a couple of viral website ideas I submitted by posting about them and adding them to his blog-roll.

DavesDaily was a giant of it’s time, at its peak it made it into the top 10k websites of Alexa. Sadly, however, Dave suddenly stopped posting in 2010, with his last recorded post (according to the WBM) being on September 8, 2010. The website went off the map completely in March 2012 and the domain name currently does not resolve.

I hope Dave is alright and simply got bored of posting his funny snippets. DavesDaily.com will remain one of my favourite sites that are no longer operational.
