Web host Go Daddy announced on Monday it has hired two new executives including David Popowitz as its first SVP of corporate development and Raj Mukherjee as VP and GM of the company’s Site Builder product line, to increase expansion around technology partners and products. The appointments come a week after former Yahoo chief product officer Blake Irving was announced as CEO of web host Go Daddy, replacing interim CEO Scott Wagner.
In an interview with the WHIR, Irving discussed his short-term objectives regarding the delivery of Go Daddy’s products, which he feels could help improve the overall service experience for customers in the short term.
The new executives should help realize Irving’s short term goals, with Popowitz leading Go Daddy’s effort to acquire and partner with companies that offer best-in-class products and services and Mukherjee helping to strengthen Go Daddy’s Website Builder and other related products.
Popowitz and Mukherjee, who are both based in Go Daddy’s new Mountain View, California office, will fuel Go Daddy’s on-going expansion.
Mukherjee has significant experience working in the field of SMB products, having led Google’s SMB application business — a natural fit for Go Daddy’s 7 million-plus small business customers.
Go Daddy partnered with DudaMobile last month to launch mobile Website Builder, which automates the integration of web and mobile sites to save businesses time and expand their customer reach.
As part of the Go Daddy Website Builder product launch, more than 700,000 mobile optimized sites were enabled to slingshot web host Go Daddy forward to become one of the largest mobile website hosting companies in the world.
“Go Daddy’s plan is to evolve our website building technology and to acquire and partner with companies in ways that help us improve the quality, simplicity and range of services we provide our customers,” said Go Daddy Interim CEO Scott Wagner. “David Popowitz and Raj Mukherjee bring a diverse set of skills, experience and expertise to lead this next, exciting phase.”
Prior to joining Go Daddy, Popowitz was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank and most recently Credit Suisse where he led the Technology Investment Banking Group.
He has advised technology companies on strategic and financial matters over the last 18 years, focusing on software, SaaS, Internet and communications companies.
Last year, Popowitz served as SVP of finance at SaaS company RingCentral which provided hosted PBX for small businesses. He is also an active angel investor and advisor to start-ups.
Mukherjee has helped develop product offerings for Google and Microsoft, including Google Apps and Office 365. He has more than a decade of experience in creating and developing software.
