Tuesday,December 2012 Eranet.com NewsJava and PHP cloud platform developer Jelastic announced on Monday that it has continued the geographic expansion of its services, partnering with web hosting provider Websolute in order to bring its cloud hosting platform to Brazil, a country widely considered to be one of the most significant emerging markets in the world.
The new solution – which involves Jelastic’s platform as a service cloud offering deployed on Websolute’s hosting infrastructure – is currently a beta project. More information, along with the opportunity to sign up for the trial, is available on the company’s website (which is, unsurprisingly, in Portuguese).
Jelastic’s approach to delivering its cloud platform to end users relies entirely on partnerships with service providers in the hosting channel. Beginning with its initial launch early in 2012 and continuing from there, Jelastic has partnered with select hosting providers to deliver its cloud solution. In the US, managed hosting provider ServInt was the first partner to deliver the Jelastic Java cloud platform. In Europe, Jelastic partnered with Host Europe to launch its java cloud platform.
Following its initial launch in the US and Europe, Jelastic announced further partnerships with hosting providers including Tuskaeru in Japan, and Russian hosting provider Rusonyx.
In recent weeks, Jelastic has extended those partnership efforts to include development environments, working to integrate its platform with development tools in order to make it easier for developers working in those environments to deploy onto the Jelastic cloud. Jelastic announced a plugin for the Eclipse development environment in November.
As one of the key investments in the portfolio of Runa Capital, Jelastic represents that company’s strategy of delivering tools through hosting providers. For hosting providers, the progress of Jelastic might be most interesting for its illustrating what service providers would likely consider the “right” model of partnership for a business looking to distribute a software platform (insofar as it is a model that includes built-in opportunities for hosting providers).
Those opportunities may become more substantial in the future. Right now, Jelastic is being pretty selective in its partnerships, and at least some of those deals include a certain period of exclusivity. But in the long-term, Jelastic intends for many more hosting providers to offer its cloud platform.
Talk back: Have you explored any means of delivering a platform as a service type cloud solution to customers? Have you partnered with a company like Jelastic as a means of delivering a new service to customers? Do you think Jelastic’s model for working with the hosting channel sets a good example for other software companies? Let us know in the comments.
