Cloud infrastructure solutions provider Egnyte announced on Wednesday it has launched Egnyte Cloud Control, the company’s new

content storage and sharing infrastructure service.

According to the press release, Cloud Control “offers enterprise users complete power over their cloud strategy with a cloud and device

agnostic service that can easily scale to thousands of users across different geographies.”

The device agnostic nature of Egnyte Cloud Control mirrors comments made by ServiceMesh CEO Eric Pulier in a recent WHIR Q&A

interview, in which he said the growing adoption of a cloud operating model will eventually lead to the demise of vendor lock-in.

In addition, the hybrid cloud storage service offers average upload speeds that perform at 25 times faster than typical cloud services.

Egnye Cloud Control allows customers to mix and match different storage devices and cloud services into a Global Name Space,

ensuring that users can access their files regardless of their location, device type, or storage cloud.

The process allows storage to be decoupled from the application, allowing nodes to reside in different geographies in order to benefit

from access patterns.

As such, users can either store their content entirely behind the firewall in a cloud storage platform like AWS S3 or Rackspace, or in

Egnyte’s public cloud, providing users with greater security.

In a corporate network structure, the service uses existing file system structures, does not force deployment of proprietary file systems and offers direct access to local shares, ensuring that enterprises experience the benefits of scalability, elasticity and security.

The service will be publicly available in late first quarter of 2013.
