  • New funds bring a location-based twist to this social network for the gay community

It's Fabulis. Well, it's Fab.com, but the rebranding of Fabulis could be described as fabulous.

Fab.com, formerly Fabulis, a social network targeted at gay men, announced Monday that it has raised $1.75 million in Series A funding.  Investors in this round include First Round Capital, The Washington Post Company, Baroda Ventures and Zelkova Ventures. This is added to an earlier $1.25 million in angel financing, for a total of about $3 million raised for the site so far.

The site's new name also comes with more then a simple rebrand. The site has made some significant changes, with 350 new features and 100,000 new pages for users to enjoy.

The site created what it has termed the "largest worldwide directory of gay-rated places." Several of the new features are related to that listing of places. The new Fab.com features a location-based service, which allows users to check in, name the people they are with, upload images from the location and rate the place. Users can also post tips about the locations, so that other users don't miss out on the best of what is available.

When paired with the site's guide to gay-relevant events, which features locations across the globe, this social application has the potential to be a real-time tool to find what and who you want. Since the site boasts 110,000 members currently, with 5,000 new users joining on a weekly basis, that is a lot of men waiting to be found.

In addition to site changes, there has also been an update to the mobile application, which is currently available on iPhone, and soon to be released for Android-based phones.

Fab.com is, of course, not the only one tapping into this specific niche of social networking. Sites like Out Everywhere, Man Crunch, Connexion, are all socially oriented, but most of them focus specifically on dating.

Fab.com was not available for comment at this time.
