Google: Chrome OS can replace Windows on 60% of business PCs, coming to all devices

  •       The Google Chrome OS [a.k.a Chromium OS], based-on the company’s own Chrome browser functionality (and stores content on the cloud environment), is coming to smartphones, tablets and television sets and not just netbooks, Linus Upson, VP of engineering for Chrome at Google said in a statement on Wednesday. "We are starting with laptops and we will expand in both directions," he said.

Furthermore, Upson said that a Google-branded netbook running the Chrome OS will be out by the end of the 2010 – - it will start in seconds, not minutes; it runs a browser (not OS) that runs apps & data, and it can run on as little as an 8GB SSD (with apps installed).

On an interesting note, Mr.Upson went as far as saying that Google’s Chrome OS has the potential to immediately replace Microsoft Windows on 60% of business PCs – - especially because Chrome OS stores essentially everything (be it, docs, photos, e-mail & apps) on the cloud and access to information anywhere and everywhere there’s an internet connection.

…on a side note, we’re definitely, awaiting its release.
