Yahoo is teaming up with online discount broker Groupon and similar services to offer local deals to consumers throughout the U.S.

      TEAM PLAYER: This is the latest in a series of partnerships that Yahoo has forged with other services during the past 18 months in an effort to make its website more compelling while holding down its costs.

      BUY OR ALIGN?: There has been speculation that Yahoo might be interested in buying Groupon for as much as $3 billion. A Yahoo executive said partnerships don't preclude the company from making an acquisition.
