The facebook page in question
The Queen's Facebook page has only been up and running for a short time. Of course it is not a Facebook page actively accessed and updated by Queen Elizabeth II herself. The page is actually called The British Monarchy. I have not checked the page out myself but assume that it holds many of the usual Facebook tools. I know that you are not able to "friend" the queen and such stuff. You can, however, post messages.
I guess those who created this page thought that people would post messages of support and did not consider how times and people have changed. It seems that many people have been primarily visiting this page in order to post abusive messages about Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall, the wife of Prince Charles.
The press and the royals have made many attempts to persuade the people that Camilla is now liked. After all the furore with Princess Diana it is hardly surprising that many people are still not fans of Camilla.
Since the page launched last Monday, only 3 days ago, more than 200,000 people have visited. It appears that royalists and republicans alike have logged on to Facebook and viewed images, videos and news about the British monarchy. Facebook moderators though have had to remove many abusive comments, by anti-monarchist saboteurs who clicked the 'like' button in order to be able to post a message. This then enabled them to have a good rant or simply be abusive to the Royals.
Overall it is claimed that the positive comments outweigh the negative comments. With negative comments being deleted though it will be hard to make a fair assessment.
