  • Eranet News on January 17th,2014. Microsoft executive, Blair Westlake, has resigned as corporate Vice President of Media & Entertainment due to a different “direction” in the company.

“It has become clear to me that the organization is moving in a direction that does not fit either my expertise or my skill sets,” confirmed Westlake to Variety on Wednesday.

Over the past 10 years at Microsoft, Westlake oversaw licensing of TV shows and movies for Xbox platforms, pushing the console to become a worldwide entertainment hub for Microsoft.

“Over the last few months Microsoft has been undergoing a large-scale reorganization. During that period, I have had the privilege of working with numerous talented and professional people. While I will miss their company and our interaction, I truly believe that this move is in the best interest of all parties concerned.”

Before joining Microsoft in 2004, Westlake served as chairman of Universal Television & Networks Group, as well as consulting for Comcast and NBC Universal.

A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the departure by stating Westlake “made a valuable contribution to the company and we wish him success in his future endeavors.”

This departure comes months after CEO, Steve Ballmer, announced his retirement in August.
