As reported,on Christmas eve, BBC’s Servers Hacked by Russian Hacker.A Russian hacker known online as “HASH” and “Rev0lver” attempted to sell the
world’s largest and oldest broadcaster, the BBC, in a Christmas Day campaign to
other cyber criminals, states a report from Reuters.A BBC spokesman neither confirmed nor denied the incident by stating, “We do not comment on security issues.”
The attack was found by cybersecurity firm, Hold Security LLC, in an underground cyber-crime forum.
The British broadcaster’s servers were accessed through an ftp system, which is typically used for transferring large data files.
“Rev0lver” used files from the site to convince “high-profile hackers” that the site had been infiltrated, in which he then attempted to sell data from the site.
Currently, Hold Security has not found any evidence that points to the company’s data being sold.
This is not the first time the BBC has been a target of an attack.
In early 2013, BBC’s Twitter account, along with other media companies, was hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army, a hacker activist group that defaces websites and Twitter accounts.
