Secure sockets layer, SSL, is a form on digital authentication that encrypts data transmissions over the Internet. As a server administrator, you may want to enable SSL encryption on all machines that are hosting public websites. Using the Internet Information Services Manager tool, you can create SSL certificates that will provide verified encryption over the Web for visitors.

Log on to your PC server with an administrator account.2
Open the "Start" menu, go to "Administrative Tools" and click on "Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager."3
Right-click on your primary website from the list on the left side of the window and choose "Properties."4
Go to the "Directory Security" tab at the top of the pop-up window, and click on the "Server Certificate" button. Press "Next" when the IIS Certificate Wizard window appears.5
Choose the "Create a New Certificate" option and click "Next" again.6
Enter a name for the new security certificate, set the bit length to "1024" and click "Next."7
Enter the name of your organization and department and then click "Next" again.8
Fill in the "Common Name" field with the URL of your website. Then click "Next."9
Choose the country, state and city where you want to register your verified SSL certificate, then click "Next."10
