WHY learn HTML ?
The online presence nowadays is a must - either that you have a business or you just want to put your thoughts on the net by creating a website. The question is HOW to build it ? You can do it by either using a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor, or write the code by hand .
The advantage of WYSIWYG is that you can build a website in a visual way, faster and the editor engine is responsible for translating the content into HTML code. The drawbacks are that some editors are expensive and often you can end up with unwanted meta-tag code, or the web page has non-standard code or compatibility problems between browsers.
By knowing HTML, you can write the code wherever you are on any computer using just a simple text editor such as Notepad, without the need of the WYSIWYG of your choice. Also you know how to fix compatibility problems between browsers and understand the meaning of the code. As a future web designer, knowledge of HTML is a must, giving you CREDIBILITY in front of a client.
HTML being easy to learn is the starting point that will introduce you in the programming world.
In conclusion, it`s best to get the benefits of both worlds: using a WYSIWYG editor and knowing HTML you can always alter the code generated by the editor.
