Data center operator and cloud hosting provider BYTEGRID announced on Wednesday it has acquired a 77,322-square-foot carrier neutral data center in Alpharetta, Georgia from an undisclosed real estate investment trust.

The North American wholesale data center market is extremely competitive with a handful of key player such as Digital Realty Trust, DuPont Fabros, and CoreSite.

However, BYTEGRID takes a slightly different approach to its competitors by expanding its data center footprint in underserved secondary markets.

Atlanta has grown to become the economic hub of the Southeast, attracting some of country’s largest enterprise and cloud service providers.

Recognizing this growth a couple of years ago, BYTEGRID launched its wholesale data center operations in the region.

By expanding its data center footprint into the region, BYTEGRID has an opportunity to grow its customer base as well as complement its mid-Atlantic presence with an additional data center build.

The Alpharetta data center is located on 15.98 acres of land, 30 minutes from Hartsfield International Airport and 20 minutes from downtown Atlanta.

The move comes more than a year after BYTEGRID made its first acquistion in a 241,000-gross-square-foot data center in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The Alpharetta data center was previously 100 percent occupied by a tenant who BYTEGRID simply refers to as a “Fortune 500 leading software and technology services company” in the press release. The tenant will continue to occupy the data center under an existing long-term lease agreement.

The data center is equipped with an electrical system which offers four 12kV independent direct buried underground utility power feeds, dedicated HVAC and two diverse underground conduit pathways which support its telecommunications network and fiber access.

BYTEGRID says it plans to expand the data center in order to accommodate over 100,000 square feet of additional enterprise-class data center space providing over 15 MW of power capacity to serve the enterprise, government and service provider markets.
