West Palm Beach’s Muoio, Mitchell don’t regret Digital Domain deal

Fending off criticism from the Digital Domain collapse, Mayor Jeri Muoio and Commissioner Kimberly Mitchell said Tuesday night they don’t regret spending $2 million of taxpayer money and potentially putting prime downtown land once owned by the city at risk.
Mitchell made an emotional speech at Tuesday’s commission meeting, saying area businesses and their leaders strongly “supported what we were trying to accomplish” and that “we were never, and will never be in harm’s way.”
Muoio said partnering Digital Domain with Florida State University to create a digital animation college in downtown West Palm Beach “was presented as a very positive project and I believe that in the end it will be positive for our city.”
Muoio announced a news conference at 3 p.m. today at city hall to discuss the city’s plan moving forward.
