Web hosting provider Peak 10 announced on Monday it has enhanced its recovery cloud service, making improvements to its scope, processes and technology to help customers restore services in the event of a site failure.

The move comes a month after Peak 10 launched a multi-phase expansion of its Atlanta technology campus.

The Peak 10 Recovery Cloud now incorporates technologies that allow customers to securely replicate production systems to a cost-saving, multi-tenant environment, without changing their existing environment or underlying storage platform.

A full group of managed security services can be layered on top of infrastructure and DR services to ensure maximum data protection within the multi-tenant environment, through segmentation of customer information, data and network.

The disaster recovery as a service solution is highly flexible in that it allows production systems to be housed on the customer’s premises, within a Peak 10 environment or at a third-party data center.

The DR environment can be configured to meet a customer’s needs, no matter how complicated, including multiple IP segments and virtual local area networks, along with compliancy and regulatory requirements.

The DR management and replication component of the recovery cloud can also be purchased as a standalone service.

The Peak 10 Recovery Cloud provides great scalability by leveraging a shared pool of compute and storage resources that customers subscribe to in order to run their replicated systems for testing or actual failover purposes.

The solution is connected to Peak 10’s multi-tiered storage infrastructure and core network, which are provided based on specific performance, availability and scalability requirements for each customer.

Peak 10 manages all aspects of the underlying technology, including maintenance and providing the associated data center services, hypervisor and Windows operating system licenses.

These enhancements to the Peak 10 Recovery Cloud make it a more cost-effective way for customers to implement DR services and to ensure the near-time replication and protection of their business-critical data.

“Unlike many disaster recovery services that schedule data replication a few times a day, the Peak 10 Recovery Cloud makes use of continuous data protection, which allows for near real-time data replication,” said Monty Blight, Peak 10 vice president of product management. “Customers can select the point in time to test or restore before a site failure occurred and the length of the history for data restoration, ranging from hours to days, can also be specified by the customer.”

Peak 10 supports the customized aspect of this solution with service level agreements that specify response time, recovery time objectives and recovery point objectives.

Customers using the Recovery Cloud also are able to leverage Peak 10’s disaster recovery expertise, enterprise-class facilities, managed services and cloud infrastructure to ensure the security of their replicated environment while reducing incremental impact to their overall capital investment on IT infrastructure.

The new technologies behind the enhanced Peak 10 recovery cloud are just some of the enhancements being made to Peak 10’s secure cloud services.

The company’s HIPAA-compliant cloud service was launched earlier this year to assist businesses responsible for the secure transmission and storage of public health information.

Peak 10 said it will also be launching a PCI-audited cloud service for businesses handling payment card data that must meet the compliance requirements of the PCI DSS.
