For the 2nd year in a row, Afnic organizes an open day with its Scientific Council on July 4, 2012, with the active support of the Mines-Télécom Institute Building on the success of its first seminar on June 10, 2011, the AFNIC Scientific Council is inviting the French Internet community for a new day of discussions on July 4, 2012. Lasting all day, with a wide range of content in two parts – a tutorial in the morning and a seminar in the afternoon – the event is organized on the premises of Télécom ParisTech.

Program Overview:
9:30 to 12:30: Tutorial, by Stéphane Bortzmeyer, Afnic R&D engineer. Entitled "Domain Name Security: Threats, Realities and Practical Solutions", the tutorial addresses the global issues involved in the security of domain names in general (DNS risks such as Kaminsky vulnerability but above all provisioning risks), with practical examples and case studies (such as hackers who connect to the DNS hosting provider of a given domain and change its configuration, excessive anti-Conficker filtering, SQL injections to a registry or a registrar, etc.).

14:00 to 18:00: Seminar of the Afnic Scientific Council, with:

A presentation of part of the work of the Afnic Scientific Council, including the results of the second edition of its "Technology Backdrop" survey carried out in May-June 2012.
Talks and a debate on the main theme of the seminar: “Is the Internet resilient? Will it become more so? Or less?” Examples of talks include a presentation of the results of the Internet Resilience Observatory in France (2011 report) by François Contat (ANSSI), Guillaume Valadon (ANSSI) and Stephane Bortzmeyer (Afnic), and a presentation by Daniel Karrenberg, Chief Scientist at RIPE-NCC, entitled "Some Thoughts about Vulnerabilities and Resilience of the Internet Today".
The day will end with a cocktail for the participants.
