Company lets domain expire that was recovered in lawsuit.

Facebook has been on the hunt over the past year to capture typos of its domain names. But it’s not holding on to all of them.

For example, last year the company filed a massive cybersquatting lawsuit covering hundreds of domains. One of the domains was Facebbbook.com. According to historical whois records, the domain was once controlled by Kevin Ham’s Vertical Axis. After the suit was filed, the domain name was transferred to Facebook by way of domain attorney Zak Muscovitch.

But Facebook let the domain expire in January of this year, according to historical whois records at DomainTools.

It was dutifully snapped up by ENOM666, INC., one of Demand Media’s ominously named drop catching registers, yesterday.

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a Facebook domain return to the wild. It appears logon-facebook.com was dropped and registered by someone else.

Perhaps the domains don’t get much traffic, but I’d think the company would pay $10 a year to renew them. It’s a lot less than $1 billion for Instagram.
