  • Were you a bit surprised this week to find that your Twitter page has a new look?

If so, you've got a lot of company.

Twitter this week finally wrapped up the rollout of a site redesign first announced in December.

The microblogging site reported Thursday afternoon that the rollout of the redesigned Twitter.com is now complete. The redesigned site was first available for mobile phones.

"We've simplified the design to make it easier than ever to follow what you care about, connect with others and discover something new," Twitter said in a blog post last December. "What we're announcing today is just the beginning. We now have a framework in place that we will quickly build and iterate upon to help users connect with whatever is meaningful to them."

Aside from a new look, the redesign also lets users click on any tweet in their timeline to expand it to view related photos, videos and retweets.

The @Connect feature at the top left of the page allows users to see who has followed, mentioned, retweeted or "favorited" any of their tweets.

Twitter also has added #Discover, which offers up a stream of information, including world news and sports news.

The stream is customized for individual users with Twitter basing the results on the user's location and who they follow, as well as major news events of the day.

Twitter also is expanding the functionality of users' profile pages so people and companies can share more about themselves through text, pictures and video.

Twitter.com's last redesign was completed in the fall of 2010.
