Due to the Egyptian revolution ,most Internet connectivity to Egypt were shut down.Rumors said that the national government gave the instruction to shut down the Internet Connectivity. All this has led to the inaccessibility of the main domain name system (DNS) server of the Egyptian ccTLD (.eg).

It seems that the primary servers have been inaccessible to those outside Egypt since January 27,while secondary DNS servers for .eg have continued to function.

.EG is operated by the Egyptian Universities Network (EUN), while the arabic scipt to-level domain .masr (.مصر) is operated by the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA).

The .مصر DNS servers are exclusively in Egypt .This could only mean that the service to websites served by the top-level domain are unreachable by the rest of the world.

However,it seems that the operators of .eg are communicating with ICANN.

"The operators of .eg have communicated with ICANN and through ICANN are communicating with the secondary operators outside the country. They have requested that the secondary operators continue using the existing zone files past their time to live timeframes, if necessary."said Rod Beckstrom in a blog post.
