Fewer U.S. adults are visiting Twitter.com, but those who do are frequenting the site more often, according to a new survey.
The number of U.S. adults paying a monthly visit to Twitter.com fell 14% from November 30, 2009 to November 29, 2010, according to weekly trend data from Experian Simmons DataStream. Meanwhile, the average number of visits to the site rose 37%, from 7.3 visits to 10 visits per month. The data is based on an analysis of data from 30,000 consumers.
As frequency increased, though, the duration of the visits fell, on average, “suggesting visitors today are seeking more frequent quick hits, rather than spending longer periods of time reading through posts,” John Fetto wrote on Experian’s blog. The average amount of time Twitter.com users spend on the site during a typical session fell from 15 minutes and 12 seconds on November 28, 2009 to 13 minutes and 12 seconds on November 27, 2010.
Users in the U.S., however, have spent slightly more time on the site in the past year. They spent an estimated 2 hours, 12 minutes on Twitter.com in November 2010 compared to 1 hour, 51 minutes in November 2009.
Of course, analyzing visits to Twitter.com doesn’t reveal the whole picture. Earlier this month, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said that 40% of all tweets come from mobile devices. Meanwhile, a decrease in traffic to Twitter.com doesn’t seem to be adversely affecting the company. According to SharesPost, a secondary market for buying and selling stock in privately held companies, Twitter‘s value has jumped to $4 billion, based on recent transactions.Source from MashableGet your own web hosting here!
