Businesses lack overseas domain name presence

The adoption of foreign language sites is low even among leading British technology companies, research by domain name marketplace Sedo has found.
It discovered that half of the 30 fast growing companies it surveyed had secured the .com version of their trading name.
Far fewer owned both the .co.uk and .com name and less than 10pc had .net or .biz sites.
In research for Your Business, Sedo found that of the 30 companies it examined, only 13pc owned their .ie (Ireland) domain; only 7pc owned the German and Spanish equivalent; only 3pc owned the Swedish equivalent.
Of the companies polled, none owned the French, Chinese, Russian or Brazilian domains. Sedo said the average cost of buying the equivalent domain name in another country was £916 for the Spanish to £4,297 for the French equivalent.
