Mark Zuckerberg as Time’s Person of the Year
Last month, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg won the high honor of being named Time’s Person of the Year.
The saga of Facebook’s early days may next be the catalyst for “The Social Network” nabbing the Oscar for Best Picture later this year.
Zuckerberg may also eventually be honored by the Bay Area trial lawyers association someday. They must appreciate him because he simply can’t outrun a lingering charge, alleging that he stole the idea for the social-network site.
By now, for the much-lauded Zuckerberg, the charge may seem like some gum on the bottom of his shoe that he just can’t get rid of.
According to The Wall Street Journal, three judges from the Ninth Circuit of Appeals “questioned lawyers about whether to toss out a 2008 settlement between” Zuckerberg and his collegiate business partners, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. This dispute stood at the center of the highly praised film, “The Social Network.” Read related Wall Street Journal story.
The Journal pointed out that “the judges showed signs of reluctance to re-open the settlement.”
The twins originally received $20 million in cash and $45 million in Facebook stock to give up their lawsuit. Facebook is worth billions, as proven by Goldman Sachs /quotes/comstock/13*!gs/quotes/nls/gs (GS 175.00, +3.43, +2.00%) , which recently headed a $500 million funding drive in the privately owned company.
Maybe we’ll soon see the case’s outcome depicted on the big screen. “The Social Network, Part 2,” anyone?
