Apple has quietly released an update to iPhoto '11, the stylish tech company's photo-organizing and editing tool included with its Mac consumer software suite, iLife '11. The updated version 9.1.1 adds some photo email options and fixes a number of quirks.

      New for sharing is the ability to send themed photo emails using an external email application, two new email themes (Classic and Journal, bringing the total number to 10), and the choice of small, medium, or large sizes for email-attached photos.

      iPhoto email themes are a new feature of the '11 version, providing appealingly designed borders as well as stylized personalized text and themes for photos sent via email. An example is a theme that makes your email look just like a handwritten Postcard. Before this update, users could only choose whether to attach photos' files or just show them in the body of the email, with the only size choice being between full and optimized. And you could only send these special emails from your default Apple Mail account.

      In addition to these new features, the update addresses a number of limitations, flaws, and irregular behaviors in the app. One example of the first is that you can now edit Event titles in Photos view. A flaw fix means that after you upgrade a Library, the correct sort order is preserved. And before the upgrade, updating your older iPhoto library caused reliability issues and messed with the sort order of Events.
