WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is an international standard for the data exchange among mobile phone, internet and personal

computers. Like HTTP, it is a communication method for WEB servers and browsers.  Before further study, we should learn the working method and operation principle of WEB server. Figure 1 shows that users are sending request to the pointed  WEB server of URL, and the server return the corresponding content to the customer. All these are done under the HTTP protocol. When customer gives an URL request started with HTTP, the corresponding programmes in the WEB server can be CGI, static page, SERVLET or others, but they are all sent to the customer as HTML format, and the users can read them in browsers.

1. The Fast Development of Mobile Service
In 2005, the value-up service of mobile industry is growing fast, and the non-verbal income take up a larger and larger portion. In Japan and Kerea, it even go to more than 30%, among which the WAP Host business contribute a lot.

Telecom is leading in the business operation and user number, and with the promotion of MO brand, the sharing proportion is growing; Netcome is leading in the CDMA1X techonology, but still in the new stage, and the sharing proportion is growing relatively slow.

In 2005, there are 84.68 million mobile phones put into market, and over 87% percent are available with WAP Host funtion. Also, the development to mobile technology realizes that we can greatly cut the cost but still mantain a powerful funtion. This is having a very positive influence on the development of WAP Host, and introducing more and more users to WAP Host business. The reasonable price and the powerful funtion make the WAP Host mobile phone become a very common electronic product. Meanwhile, the simple web visiting setting enables users to surf online easily.

3. Users Growing Mature

The 2.5G mobile web has now greatly increased the transmission capacity, and promoted the development of WAP Host business. But neither the GPRS of Telecom or the CDMA1X of Netcom can perfectly solve this problem. Only when the 3G network is built, we can enjoy a fast and smooth network.
When it goes to the 3G, Telecom will never be the only powerful net dealer, and there will be more in the whole market. The market will be reshape, and more competition will promote the development of it.

2. WAP2.0 is Reshaping the Market.
WAP is a great support for mobile web visiting. A very important part of value-up business is the transmission speed of data, and now many different version have been developed. The latest WAP2.0 is greatliy increasing the transmission speed and can provide much richer resource. One very important advantage of WAP2.0 is that it can be run under the new internet standard. It has better transmission speed and use the xHTML language. It is now becoming a great convenience for both developers and users. WAP2.0 is playing a more and more important role, and wins more and more users for the market.
