A man who admitted drink-driving after a video of him driving dangerously on the A90 into Stonehaven was posted on a social networking site has been jailed.

Sean Hills was caught close to his home in the Aberdeenshire town in January.

The footage, which was posted on Facebook, showed his car veering across the A90 dual carriageway. He then drove into the town, where he was stopped by a police patrol.

Hills, 36, was jailed for five-and-a-half months at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

He was also disqualified from driving for six years.

Hills pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving while unfit due to drink and drugs.

He also admitted a separate charge of drink-driving and was sentenced to three months in prison and a four-year driving ban.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Insp Ewan Innes, from the roads policing department, said: "On both occasions that this male has been caught driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs it has been as a direct result of members of the public reporting his erratic driving to the police.

"Over 50% of drivers caught drink or drug driving are a direct result of the public reporting.

"The sentence handed out today by the courts sends a strong message that drink or drug driving will not be tolerated."
